They worth putting in?
What kind of work is involved in putting them in? Will I have to mess around at all with the gear set, or is this a straight up bolt on that doesn't affect bearings, pinion/gear settings, etc?

you don't say what rear you have, but they are a good idea, if an axle brakes it wont leave you. you dont have to mess with the gears at all, just take the cover off to remove the pin that holds the C-clips in, remove the axles, the instructions will tell you what to do next. remove the axle bearings and seals at the end on each tube. then cut off the end of the tube as per the instructions for what C-clip kit you buy. and press the c-clip eliminators on your axles and bolt them on. use plenty of permatex.

It's not a "bolt on" job. While you wont have to touch the centre section other than throwing out the clips, you should have someone that has an alignment jig, to weld the housing ends on.
I wouldn't recommend pressing on the retaining collars, they should be "sweated" on with a little heat due to the high interference fit.
