heres the deal
Fresh 475 HP 383 Stroker in an 85 Monte SS with a fresh 700R
romp it and it cracks bell housings
first thought was drive shaft too long but it seems to have enough slide in it
I was also told use a cadilac cross member to lower the pitch of the trans
and that the stock 200R cross member raises the tail shaft too high and will
cause the cracking ...
Once again everything is new and fresh and I just picked the car up as a project
and haven't looked to deep into any specifics YET !
The owner ran out of money and just gave up on it and I took it in ....
any help appreciated

Re: cracking bell housings on a 700R
I am going to assume that this has happened a few times so far, which would eliminate a minor unnoticed flaw in the original transmission casting. Repeated bell housing failures can be caused by several things. The most common causes can be attributed to missing dowel pins, all solid engine and transmission mounts, improper angle at the cross-member. Give me a call @ 856-404-1789 I'll try to help. Tony
