Cecil County Dragway 4/18/2009 Real Street Car Shootout Picture Gallery

For videos from this race, scroll down further in the thread and see Carey (CLC Videos) post, or check out GoneDragRacing's Streetfire page. Good to have you back at the starting line, Carey!

Come late Friday night, I admit it, I was checking the weather reports like most of you racers were, seeing if the Series Opener of the Cecil Real Street Car Shootout would be a go or not. We have had a bad break with two rainouts in the two weeks before, and the Outlaw Street Car Shootout from 3 weeks earlier put the taste of heads up racing in all our mouths.. well luckily, mother nature cooperated, and brought us a flat out awesome day of racing.

10.0 Index
This was the first ever 10.0 Index program run at Cecil County Dragway. Qualifying brought us a 17 car field with 9 of the cars within a tenth of the Index. Tony Mullin layed down an impressive 10.003 run during Qualifying to set the mark for all.

Round 1
Eliminations got going with an awesome side by side race between Mike Romeo and Tom Wood. Both had equal reaction times of .031 but Mike made it to the stripe first running a 10.018 to Tom's 10.082. Tom continued to run T&T for the rest of the day, most of the time checking out the clouds in the sky for a good ways down the strip. Brenden Mills' striped Mustang takes down the next matchup, running a 10.055 to Jay McCardle's breakout 9.867 in his '97 Vette. Mike Kost has some trouble as Erica Coleman and her 10.246 pass advances her to round #2. Kevin Fournier goes red by .006, but would have had trouble against Carl Ungaro's 10.059 pass. Bill Dutka takes the win light against Charles Lion in the next pairing, his 10.082 holding up. He will certainly be working on his .120 light from round #1 if he wants to continue against the tough 10.0 Index field. Carey Cable, who kept breaking out during qualifying, has figured out his ride, takes a win against Rob Ward's 10.056 pass. Carey's margin of victory on this pass was .001 seconds over Ward, who almost got Cable with the holeshot win. For the last matchup, Mike Armetta redlit by .002 giving Josh Solimine a win in his Iroc. Mike was pleasing everyone throughout the day with some killer wheelstands off the line. Tony Mullin, our #1 qualifier, takes the single and runs a 9.937 - he better slow down a hair to continue past Round #2.

Round 2
Brendan Mills takes a holeshot win over Carey Cable who had some problems on the launch, his .227 light ruined a 10.003 pass which would normally be good enough to move on. Tony Mullin has slowed down the car a little bit, running a 9.996 in the next matchup, which luckily for him is good for the win due to a double breakout situation against Erica Coleman. Next up were Mike Romeo and Bill Dutka. Dutka takes Romeo off the line by a slight margin, but Romeo's 10.047 pass is good enough to head to the semi-finals. Carl Ungaro and Josh Solimine finish up the round, each with singles.

Semi-Finals
Mike Romeo is up first against #1 Qualifier Tony Mullin. Romeo caught Mullin sleeping at the tree and also Mullin broke out, putting Romeo in the Finals. Finishing up the Semi-finals were Carl Ungaro and Josh Solimine. Solimine red-lights .007 giving Ungaro a pass to the finals.

Finals
It was good to see two of our most colorful 10.0 Index personalities make it to the final round of eliminations. Mike Romeo goes red by .013 giving Ungaro the win for the day. Mike will tell you the whole story about the ordeal if you ask him next time you see him :)

12.0 Index
Another debut class for Cecil, the 12.0 Index class brings about a good amount of hot looking, streetable cars to the track for some good old heads up action. Similar to the 10.0 field, this field had half of the cars running within a tenth of the number. Bringing in #1 Qualifier was Dave Raser in his '81 Fairmont wagon. Holeshit wins were prevalent today, many racers going back to work on reaction times for the next race.

Round 1
Our first matchup was George Baritt vs. Steve Hardwick. Both racers took a nap as the lights dropped, with Baritt getting going first and taking the holeshot win over Hardwick. Kevin Walsh AKA Road Runner Kev takes the holeshot win with a 12.384 over Howard Anderson's '76 Monza running a 12.227. Rich Smith breaks out against Lynn Townes, who is on point with a .004 light and ready to advance. The next matchup was a solid race, John Stankunas with a 12.063 and .021 light takes the win over Steve Gurnick's 12.084 pass. Sam Reynolds had trouble getting close to the Index, his 12.693 would not cut it against Tom Brown's 12.262 pass. David Cruz gets a single run as Ed Stoltz is unable to make his pass. #1 Qualifier Dave Raser backs up his position on his single, running a 12.063 with a .008 light, the best package in round #1

Round 2
Tom Brown improves over his first round, getting closer to the index and takign a holeshot win over David Cruz. Road Runner Kev moves on with an impressive .002 light and a respectable 12.074 pass, over Josh Stankunas who was on Kev's toes with a .005 light, but his 12.108 pass would not do the trick. George Barritt was no match as the tree dropped against Cliff Sebring, Sebring's .023 light and 12.135 pass gave him a win against Barritt's near perfect 12.006 pass. Lynn Townes continued to impress, taking out the #1 qualifier in round #2 with a 12.055 pass and .036 light.

Semi-Finals
Tom Brown takes out Road Runner Kev, Kev breaking out with a 11.992 pass. Brown was on point, an .039 light and a 12.126 pass. Clfif Sebring goes red by .011 in the final pairing, advancing Lynn Townes on to the finals.

Finals
Lynn Townes and Tom Brown pulled into the beams for our 12.0 Index Finals. Both have had a great day, on point with reaction times and doing well with running the Index. Lynn Townes takes it home with yet another holeshot win for the 12.0 group, running a 12.192 with an .021 light against Brown's 12.139 and .099 light.

275 Drag Radial
This class has brought a lot of positive hype to the heads up crowd for the 2009 season. This crew of racers will need to learn to tame their cars' power down to a level that will let them put it to the ground through such a small tire. Don Barnett shows everyone that he has the stuff, earning #1 qualifier spot with a 5.243 @ 137mph pass.

Round 1
Jeff Kinsler's badass Naturally Aspirated '68 firebird spins hard off the line, as Craig Wallis takes off for the stripe and takes the win with a 6.075 pass. Our second matchup brought #1 qualifier Don Barnett against Eddie Himmighoefer. Barnett left with the wheels headed for the sky and bounced, we all thought he was done but he pedaled it and took the win light with a holeshot win over Eddie.

Finals
Both Don Barnett and Craig Wells showed off their driving skills in this 275 Drag Radial final. It was a pedal fest from start to finish, both racers were close on the tree but were on and off the throttle all the way to the end. Barnett edges out the win, his supercharged firebird running a 6.432 @ 125.

Limited 10.5
Round #1 of qualifying only had 2 racers in the mix, Alex Vrettos and Gary Kramer. Kramer is fresh off some impressive numbers at the 1320X event at the Rock. Joining the party in Round #2 was Larry Rhodes, moving over from the T&T lanes.

Round 1
In an upset, Larry Rhodes takes a win in this round over Gary Kramer, who blows the tires off in the left lane allowing Rhodes to sail down the strip. Vrettos takes a single, but also has the same trouble as Kramer and had some traction issues to work out for the finals.

Finals
Alex again has traction issues in the left lane, a waste after putting down an .003 light. Larry Rhodes, along with lane choice, takes the Victory running a 5.54@125.

Thanks for asking. No. Something went wrong with my brakes. Hard braking made the front end go right bad. I took them apart twice and bled them three times and still did the same thing. Could not figure what was wrong :(

Doh :( I had to take BBQ break then get out of the sun for a little while :nopity: :nopity: I did see you there though, I was like hmm... that car is familiar... must take pics.. turns out I didn't :) During the day, early in the season, I stick to the right lane because of where the sun is.. most of the singles were taking left lane go figure.

Not too happy with the pics I took but too late :nopity:

Carey's videos are nuts, lovin em. Only going to get better, I have an in-car camera too, have some ideas about using it this year... :) What do you guys think about the streetfire format videos? They stream and it's easier to handle for us as well

We are trying our best everyone, always open to suggestions and let us know what you like / don't like.

You 10.0 guys were damn impressive this weekend... I am gonna have to back up a little ways more than usual this year it looks like!!
