Hey guys I'm new to the site. I'm a gear head like everyone else. I just recently rebuilt my chevy 406ci myself as always. I put 210 AFR aluminum heads, and Lunati solid roller cam, lunati roller rockers, and lunati roller lifters in.
I went up to the track and I wasn't hard on it for the first pass and it ran a 13.4 shifting at 5200rpm in the 1/4.
Second pass I was full out and a 13.6 shifting at 6000rpm.
I should be getting alot more out of this, so what the hell is going on????????
With the same motor but iron gm heads and hydro cam I ran consistent 12.9's.
I figured with the new mods I should be in the high 11's.

Please help, I'm so depressed with this. The new mods were from both AFR heads and Lunati cams to match my combo.

Here are the cam specs:•
Advertised Duration (Int/Exh): 273/279
•Duration @ .050 (Int/Exh): 243/249
•Gross Valve Lift (Int/Exh): .578/.585
•LSA/ICL: 110/106
•Valve Lash (Int/Exh): 016/016
•RPM Range: 2600-7000

11.1 compression
2800 PAW stall converter
3:73 gears
Turbo 350
Holley 830Cfm Drag carb
Accel HEI Ignition
10Pt cage
275 Mickey Thompson Street slicks

IMO, your shifting too low. Your converter needs to be at least
a 3500. Your gears are ok if you were running higher rpm's, but
if your not turning at least 6800 you need 4.10
I assume your foot braking? What was your 60?
What were the valve size and runner sizes for each?

The heads are 210cc intake runners, 2.08 intake, 1.6 exh. The second pass I shifted at 6000r's with 3 tenths of a second loss. It feels like on top end the motor doesn't pull as hard like it should. Would my timing be a big factor in this? I set the cam at 10 degrees pre before start up, then timed it from there. Also I'm still running the stock 5.65 rods with stock crank until I put a new rotating assembly in over the winter.
Yes I'm foot breaking also.

First 60ft was 2.0 which I know is a slow one.

What intake? A single plane i hope.
Whats your total timing? thats what you need to worry about
and what you adjust to.
With those heads they should run in the higher rpms.
Whats your fuel pressure at start and wot.

I would start by making sure you have adequate fuel pressure.
At the least run it to 6500 consistantly and adjust your timing(total)
until your confident its right. Then play with the carb for jetting.
Please, please get that thing to leave better than a 2.0.

Single plane victor jr intake. Holley red electric pump with only 7psi at idle. I did have a holley blue pump but it burnt out. I'm leaning more towards timing and not enough fuel pressure also.
I pre-set the cam at 10 degrees before start up. I'm not sure of the total timing.
Also someone told me that the accel ignition that i have is junk and I should go with a MSD pro-billet no vacume with a 6A ignition box, 8.5mm wires and blaster II coil.

here is my first pass slip 5200rpm shift

2.177 60ft
5.790 330ft
8.785 660ft
81.59mph
11.426 1000ft
13.681 1320ft
99.93mph Trap speed

second pass slip 6000rpm shift

2.063 60ft
5.768 330ft
8.864 660ft
78.82 mph
11.592 1000ft
13.936 1320ft
95.86mph trap speed

I think you have some tuning options to try.
The stuff I said seems to correspond to what they are saying
on the nasty thread.
You will need to make sure you have enough fuel at WOT at the line.
I would have doubts myself.

try the ideas suggested and see which direction it takes you.
